1 Hotel South Beach
South Beach hotels often conjure up a certain aesthetic: white-washed Art Deco-driven icons from Florida’s hotel heyday.
1 Hotel South Beach’s $270-million design breaks the mold. Created by the New York-based Meyer Davis boutique and just opened in April of this year, it’s the first foray by the group into South Beach. It’s clear as soon as you walk into the lobby that this isn’t your typical South Beach hotel.
The aesthetic throughout the hotel is inspired by nature, and features reclaimed wood and other materials that add character to a hotel at the forefront of the sustainable movement (the hotel is LEED certified).
Rooms and suites are spacious, with floor to ceiling windows that let the Florida sun in and beds are raised wooden platforms that add a stunning touch. Room décor features accents that bring to mind ocean, wood and sand tones; amenities, meanwhile, are cutting-edge and similarly environmentally responsible. Clothes hangers made from recycled paper, organic linens, hemp mattresses and more – 1 Hotel South Beach walks the walk.
When it comes to dining options, the choices at 1 Hotel South Beach are among the best in the city. Curated by celebrity chef Tom Colicchio, the hotel’s eateries reflect the diversity of the people and the seasonal ingredients of the area. The signature Beachcraft restaurant features fresh, locally caught fish, a raw bar, fresh pasta and salads in the eatery’s open-kitchen concept. Feeling adventurous? Get a chef-prepared picnic basket to take with you on your journey.
Thirsty? It just so happens 1 Hotel South Beach has a great collection of spots to sip on a signature cocktail, ice-cold beer or glass of wine. The rooftop pool and bar combo a great place to chill (there are four pools in total), and The Sand Box offers cantina-style fare as well as fresh juices, cocktails and other drinks to keep you cool. Tom on Collins, meanwhile, takes the food-and-drink combo to new heights: small/shareable plates work perfectly with seasonal cocktails, wine on tap and local brews.
Not to mention the 600 feet of adjacent pristine beachfront, the luxury cabanas and rooftop daybeds, and the incredible attention to detail when it comes to taking care of guests.
